Journalist
Tyler Kingkade is a journalist based in Los Angeles, known primarily for his coverage of education issues, abusive treatment of young people, culture war fights, sexual assault and harassment cases, extremism, and reporting on vulnerable populations. He is currently a national investigative and enterprise reporter for NBC News.
Tyler’s work has been honored by the Polk Awards, and he has been a semi-finalist for the Goldsmith Prize from Harvard University’s Shorenstein Center twice, a finalist in the Education Writers Association awards, honored multiple times by the LA Press Club, and by journalism programs at New York University, Syracuse University, the University of Georgia and the Poynter Institute. His articles have resulted in legislation to protect victims of sexual assault and child abuse, prompted many state government investigations, and cited in Congressional investigations.
Previously, he was on the National desk at BuzzFeed News, and before that a senior editor at HuffPost. He has also written for The Atlantic, Vice, Town & County, The 74, Teen Vogue, among other publications. He has gone through hostile environment and first aid training, and is experienced in covering protests, civil and criminal court cases, and other breaking news.
He graduated from Iowa State University and studied political journalism at Georgetown University through The Fund for American Studies. In a previous life, Tyler was in a band that played the Warped Tour twice.
